Dental Care

By the age of three, most dogs and cats develop periodontal disease.

This dental disease can cause oral discomfort, missing teeth, and chronic infections, including tooth root abscesses or oronasal fistulas. Chronic dental disease can also increase the risk of other health problems, such as chronic kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, and diabetes.

Dental disease usually starts with plaque and tartar buildup. If left untreated, tartar provides a perfect environment for bacteria and inflammation to grow, leading to gingivitis, bone loss, and root decay. To prevent plaque and tartar accumulation, daily tooth brushing and the use of plaque-reducing products may be recommended. We are happy to provide demonstrations on how to clean your pet’s teeth and provide any additional information to help you care for your pet’s dental health at home. Check out our website for a full list of veterinary dental products.

Professional dental cleanings are necessary to remove plaque and tartar that cannot be removed through regular brushing. During a cleaning, your pet will be placed under anesthesia to ensure a thorough cleaning.

Our state-of-the-art dental equipment and newest dental cleaning recommendations allow us to provide the best care for your pet’s dental health. Anesthesia also enables us to perform a comprehensive oral examination and digital dental radiographs, which help us assess your pet’s oral health and determine if any teeth need to be removed.
